CBC Chair Marcia L. Fudge's Remarks at the Fifth Annual Avoice Heritage Celebration

Good evening.

Thank you Congressman Fattah for that warm introduction.

It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you tonight for the Fifth Annual Avoice Heritage Celebration.

Through the Avoice Virtual Library Project, the CBCF preserves the rich history of political and legislative contributions made by African-American Members of Congress to our nation and to our world.

Given the significant role of African American Members of Congress in US history, preserving congressional papers and our historical materials remains a priority.

Honoring the legacy of CBC Members and sharing the results of our work is critical to the advancement of African Americans and other underserved communities.

These tools are used to educate young people in our schools and beyond.

As we all know, you can't know where you're going until you know where you've been. And remembering our rich history of perseverance and progress is more important now than ever.

Remembering who we are and preserving the work we’ve done should remain a top priority for our offices.

The Avoice Heritage Event honors individuals and institutions that embody the spirit and mission of Avoice, including former African-American member of Congress and one of my “SHEroes”, Representative Eva Clayton of North Carolina.

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are grateful that the CBCF continues to make the Avoice project a priority. It is critical that this legacy be preserved and known around the country and around the world.

On behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus, thank you to the CBCF for your work and thank you all for joining us this evening.

We appreciate your continued support.
