Today marks the 65^th anniversary of the historic Supreme Court ruling Brown v. Board of Education. This ruling determined that segregating schools on the basis of race was “inherently unequal” and therefore unconstitutional. Congresswoman Karen Bass, Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement and video to commemorate the anniversary:

“Today marks the 65^th anniversary of the historic Brown v. Board of Education ruling – which determined that segregating schools on the basis of race was ‘inherently unequal’ and thus, unconstitutional,” said Chairwoman Bass. “We know all too well that segregated schools result in segregated opportunity. Sadly, America’s public schools are more segregated today than at any time since the 1960s. This is a major reason why we must fight to ensure that our children are given the opportunity to receive a quality education no matter what school they attend. But make no mistake, by working together we can ensure our communities and every Black student in the country has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
