Congressional Black Caucus Issues Statement Regarding Supreme Court Decision on Moore v. Harper

Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (NV-04) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to reject the radical independent state legislature (ISL) theory.

“Today, the Supreme Court ruled on the side of democracy and the American people and against the radical independent state legislature theory. The Court's decision in Moore v. Harper was a blow to extremist MAGA Republicans’ attempt to give state legislatures unchecked power to pass restrictive voting laws and draw new congressional maps with no checks and balances.

“The Congressional Black Caucus applauds the work of voting rights advocates who have made this victory for our democracy possible. We will continue to push in Congress for the passage of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to address nationwide voter suppression to ensure that everyone has access to the ballot box and full and fair representation as promised under the law.”
