Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (NV-04) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement in response to the retirement of Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr.: 

“For more than 60 years, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. has worked to move our country forward. From the campaign trail to his leadership at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Reverend Jackson’s decades of service have inspired generations and brought us closer to America's promise of equality for all. 

“The CBC is proud to call Reverend Jackson a friend, esteemed colleague in the fight for civil rights and a champion of the people. Our country and the movement for justice and equality are better because of his stewardship, and history will remember his work in kind. 

“The CBC congratulates Reverend Frederick Douglass Haynes III for taking up the mantle, and we look forward to continuing our long-standing partnership with the Rainbow PUSH Coalition in this next chapter of leadership. As we continue to work together towards accomplishing  our shared goals of advancing civil rights, economic equality, and a future worthy of our struggle, we are certain that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition is in more than capable hands with Reverend Hayes.”
