Since its establishment in 1971, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has been committed to using the full Constitutional power, statutory authority, and financial resources of the federal government to ensure that African Americans and other marginalized communities in the United States have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.
Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:
“As President Trump continues his unprecedented attacks on diversity initiatives in the federal government targeting hardworking civil servants as “unelected bureaucrats”, today’s jobs report shows us less than the stellar economic growth that Republicans promised the American people. The unemployment rate rose to 4.1%, and the job market added less jobs than forecasters had predicted.
“In Tuesday’s joint address, President Trump lauded his immediate assault on federal workers, starting his first day in office. Trump’s federal hiring freeze and mass layoffs of hard-working Americans in the federal government served as a punchline on the House floor. Now we are beginning to see the effects of President Trump and Elon Musk’s destruction. President Trump’s promise to lower the costs of living and create well-paying jobs is out the window as they continue to give tax breaks to his billionaires like Elon Musk, while fighting to cut billions from programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.”
