Congressional Black Caucus Statement on Passage of the SAVE Act

Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued the following statement:

“Let’s be clear, Republicans’ SAVE Act is not about election security, full stop. This is a voter suppression bill based on a false premise of non-existent, widespread voter fraud. It is an outright attempt to undermine our election system while making it harder to vote for tens of millions of eligible U.S. citizens — disproportionately Black and minority voters, women, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, students, lower income people, and veterans.

“The CBC will not sit back while extremist Republicans continue to strip away access to the ballot box for our communities, and we urge the Senate to reject this bill. We will continue working to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect our constitutional right to vote.”
