On Wednesday, March 22 at 3 PM, the Chairman of Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-La.), and members of his executive committee, will meet with President Trump at the White House to talk about the issues affecting the African-American community, including proposed budget cuts, the ACA repeal and replace bill, education, including HBCUs, criminal justice reform, infrastructure, and economic opportunity for urban and rural communities.

During the meeting, the CBC will provide the President with short- and long-term solutions he can act on during his presidency to advance the African-American community during the 21st century and beyond.   

“This will be a serious meeting, not a photo opportunity,” Chairman Richmond said.

“For the past 50 days, the CBC has received phone calls and tweets from African Americans who are concerned  about what they’re seeing and hearing from this Administration. Consequently, when it was announced we would meet with the President, some African Americans thought it was a good idea and others thought it was a bad one.”

“I decided to accept the President’s meeting request because there is no one around him who can provide the perspective and expertise that the CBC can provide. I hope the President leaves the meeting with a better understanding of the challenges African Americans face, and how racism and discrimination in this country helped create those challenges.

“I also hope the President leaves the meeting willing to commit to the executive and legislative solutions that the CBC will provide.”
