WATCH LIVE: Congress Marks the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act and Presents the Congressional Gold Medal in Honor of Dr. and Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today at 3 p.m. ET, Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Rep. Marcia L. Fudge and Congressman John Lewis, will join leaders of the U.S. House and Senate to hold a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 didn't just help to end discrimination against black Americans, it helped end discrimination against individuals based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin.

While the Civil Rights Act may have been the 20th century’s most important legislative achievement, it was only one step, albeit an important one, in a much longer process that continues today.

During today's ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, Congressional leaders will also present a Congressional Gold Medal in honor of the Reverend Doctor and Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose leadership within the Civil Rights Movement was intrumental in passage of the Civil Rights Act.

Join Members of Congress today as we honor Dr. King and watch today's ceremony live on Speaker.gov/Live
