Congressional Black Caucus Chairman G.K. Butterfield said violence against police officers won't solve the country's problems, in a call for peace made Sunday after three police officers were killed and another three injured in Baton Rouge, La.

"Tensions are high in our country, but violence does not lead to justice and targeting law enforcement does not bring about solutions," Butterfield said, according to The Washington Examiner.

"The CBC continues to call for peace and we stand by state and federal officials as they investigate to find the individuals responsible for today's horrific event."

Butterfield's statement comes after the second act of violence against police officers this month. 

A Sunday shooting in Baton Rouge, La. — the same city where an officer shot and killed Alton Sterling during a traffic stop earlier this month — left three police officers dead and others wounded. 

Last week, five Dallas police officers were killed and more were wounded in an ambush-style attack during a protest against police violence.
