Today, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA-02), released the following statement in response to the budget resolution passed by House Republicans this morning.
“Although House Republicans could have supported the CBC Budget or another more moral and responsible budget, they chose not to do so today by passing a budget that only helps one group of Americans: the richest of the rich.
“This budget paves the way for a $1.5 trillion tax cut for millionaires and billionaires, while cutting over $5 trillion from programs that hard-working people across the country rely on – SNAP, Pell Grants, Community Development Block Grants among others. This budget also cuts Medicaid by $1.1 trillion and Medicare by $487 billion, which continues the Trump Administration’s attack on our health care system.
“Americans deserve better. They deserve a budget that invests in our communities by creating jobs, making college affordable, protecting seniors, protecting the social safety net, and making the tax code more fair. They also deserve a budget that doesn’t mortgage our future by putting our nation further in debt.”
Last night, House Republicans voted against the CBC Budget Alternative even though it is a more moral and responsible budget. The CBC Budget Alternative received 130 votes. For more information about the CBC Budget, download the one-pager, outline, and comprehensive document about it.
