CBC Chairman Statement on SCOTUS Janus v. AFSCME Decision

Today, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA-02), released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s Janus v. AFSCME decision. In a 5-4 decision, the Court ruled that workers who are represented by unions cannot be required to pay union dues.

“The Supreme Court’s Janus v. AFSCME decision is yet another attack on working Americans – the backbone of our country.

“Unions give workers the power they need to negotiate higher wages and stronger workplace protections, and have historically been one of the only ways that African Americans and other communities of color could reach and remain in the middle class.

“Although this decision has all but pulverized this path to prosperity, the Congressional Black Caucus will continue to fight for workers’ rights.”
