CBC Chair Statement on Black History Month

Today, the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressmember Karen Bass (D-CA), released the following statement in honor of Black History Month:

“While today marks the beginning of Black History Month, we know that Black History is 365 days per year. Our history gave America its first clock, the world its first pacemaker and literally built the walls of the building that the State of the Union will be given in next week.

"There is no American history without Black history and for 400 years, Black America has made immeasurable contributions to society. This work continues today, from the halls of Congress, to corporate boardrooms, to grassroots activists fighting to hold America accountable to its promise of equality for all.

"Black history reminds us that we don’t need to Make America Great Again, because our greatest days are to come thanks in large part to the countless contributions of Black Americans to America’s history.”
